The Counter-Narco-Insurgent Narrative: the Paris Hilton/Lindsay Lohan Effect
It is widely claimed that the strength of the cartels comes from guns and ammunition coming from the US. What’s often ignored, however, is the demand for drugs and the weak law enforcement measures applied to drug abusers, law breakers…people with potential blood on their hands and up their noses.
If it can be said that gun shows contributes to the Mexican Drug War, why cannot it also be said that Hollywood’s poster children such as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton contribute to the drug problem.
After all, the cartels are after money, not guns…guns are simply tools to help them acquire money. And now California is on the verge of possibly legalizing the use of Marijuana which is viewed to be a potential accelerant to the drug war by the Mexican Government.
Lindsay and Paris are not people to be picked on, they just happened to be in the news noting their use and/or acquisition of illegal drugs. So rather than pick on them, why cannot the law use them to create the new narrative as a form of community service?
Hollywood celebrities can raise awareness for Haiti, the Iraq War, anti-Gun rights, etc, but what about speaking against purchasing illegal drugs? Why not have Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and others say no to drugs...not simply because drugs are illegal, but because the process of acquiring drugs leaves many a dead body behind, not to mention thousands of orphans all for the price of an illegal snort.
Hollywood celebrities have an opportunity to change a bad situation into something good. Will they seize the opportunity?
Hollywood’s actions can help society, or help destroy society. What will it be?
